PETE KAY

RHS Women’s Soccer Varsity Head Coach

Pete Kay has more than 15 years of coaching experience in the United States with youth programs including Chicago Fire and the NY Red Bulls of the MLS as well as serving two years as boys’ freshman coach at Ridgewood High School.

He was previously the Head Coach of Match Fit Academy’s 2000 US Development Academy team, the 2002 Boys ECNL team and their 1998/99 team whilst serving as the club’s Director of Coaching for 2 years. The 1998/99 team achieved 3 straight NJYS State Championships in 2015, 2016 & 2017 and represented NJ at the USYS Regionals where they were semi-finalists twice. The team had college commitments to Division 1 schools in 2017 including Syracuse, UVA, Rutgers, St. Johns, Fairfield, Drexel, High Point, URI, Yale and Lafayette. 

Kay graduated from Montclair State in December 2015 and is a Wellness teacher at RHS. He holds a US Soccer B License and NSCAA (United Soccer Coaches) Premier Diploma.

PAUL CRONK

RHS Women’s Soccer Varsity Assistant Coach

RHS Women’s Soccer Assistant Varsity Coach Paul Cronk will be going into his twentieth year as an art educator in Ridgewood public schools this Fall.  He started his career in Ridgewood at RHS in 2002 and then taught art classes at Hawes Elementary School for six years before moving back to RHS in the Fall of 2019.  He currently teaches art courses such as Advanced Placement Art History, Architecture, Interior Design and Freshmen Focus, at Ridgewood High School.  Coach Cronk coaches the Varsity Ice Hockey Team in the winter and is an advisor to many clubs at RHS including the ROTC Club, National Art Honor Society and DECA.  

Coach Cronk returns to the RHS womens’ soccer program after a four year hiatus from the team.  He  previously served as the RHS Womens’ Freshmen Head Coach for two seasons, JV coach for multiple seasons and the program’s goal keeper coach throughout his tenure. During his time away, he continued to coach soccer.  He  worked as the Glen Rock High School boys’ soccer JV head coach and was a varsity assistant in Leonia.  He also served as the goalkeeper coach with both programs and is a level three certified goalkeeper coach through the United Soccer Coaches Association (formerly the NSCAA).  He continues working with private clients throughout the area.  He has coaching certifications in both USA Soccer and the United Soccer Coaches Association.   Coach Cronk is very excited to be back coaching soccer in Ridgewood and working with the best athletes in Bergen County.

SARAH VOLKOMER

Assistant RHS Women’s Soccer Varsity Coach and Goal Keeper Coach

Sarah Volkomer is the Women’s Soccer Assistant Varsity Coach and Goal Keeper Coach.  Sarah has held these positions since 2013. She is extremely excited to be a member of the coaching staff and hopes to contribute to the winning tradition of Ridgewood soccer.   

Sarah’s background as a goal keeper includes playing semi-professional soccer with the New Jersey Valkyries for two seasons.  In college, Sarah played for Rutgers University and Rowan University. At Rowan, Sarah was awarded New Jersey Athletic Conference Keeper of the Year and All Region Keeper of the Year, in addition to breaking seven school records.  She had an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 Tournament and was part of an NJAC winning championship. A 2005 Glen Rock high school graduate, Sarah was recognized as an Adidas All American Goal Keeper and was awarded All State and All County recognition.  She holds her Advanced National Goalkeeper Certification through the NSCAA and has her F license for team training.

Sarah began coaching goal keepers in 2005.  She has coached for a variety of club soccer teams at the youth level. She is the director of goalkeeping, youth development and coaches for Stateline Soccer Club and Performance Soccer Training out of Ramsey NJ.  She also does individual and group goalkeeper training for both male and female goalkeepers. Sarah’s keeper training focuses on skill development, proper technique and conditioning but just as importantly, she concentrates on the mental aspect of the game as well.  Sarah’s philosophy is to build each goal keeper to their potential, but always view the player as a person first. Her belief is that self-esteem and confidence is the cornerstone of being a good goal keeper. Sarah is also a certified as a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach for male and female athletes at FORCE performance training in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ.  

Sarah looks forward to working with the team and hopes to impart her knowledge and passion of the game to every player.
